  • Secretary at 16 November 1869 ‘Convention of Twenty-four’ held in the Court House, adjoining Fort Garry (John Bruce was President).
  • Secretary to Comité National des Métis de la Rivière Rouge, assembled 1 December, 1869, which adopted fourteen conditions listed in a Bill of Rights.
  • 27 December 1869 replaced Bruce as President of the Provisional Government.

  1. Hello, I am a decendant of Jean Baptiste Riel and have attempted to substantiate this claim:
    1. RIEL dit L’IRLANDE, Jean Baptiste ‘Sanscouci’/a.k.a. Jack REILLY. Born c. 1645, Limerick, Ireland; one of the Irish ‘Wild Geese‘, assimilated into the army of Louis XIV; voyaged to Canada and soldiered in the Compannie de La Valtrie (Berthier Company of the Carignan-Salieres Regiment); died Lavaltrie, Quebec

    I have found no evidence in my meager online research that they are indeed one and the same person, that a Jack Rielly even existed, birth records do not exist, and he is not listed as a known soldier in the Carignan-Salieres Regiment, or that he married Louise Lafontaine in Ireland.

    Can you tell me if you have documented proof of any of these claims or is it just a good story that everyone has accepted and passed around the internet.Thanks
